Acute upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding is a common emergency condition associated with high morbidity and mortality. In patients with upper GI bleeding, the transfusion of hemoglobin threshold of red cells is controversial. However in patients with severe bleeding, transfusion is paramount and life saving.
