Adult immunization is gaining renewed attention in India as infectious disease specialists warn that vaccines are still widely viewed as a “children-only” intervention, leaving millions of adults vulnerable to preventable illnesses. Dr. Neha Mishra, an Infectious Diseases specialist at Manipal Hospitals, highlighted that vaccine awareness among adults remains low, particularly among older adults, pregnant women, and patients with chronic illnesses. She noted that many adults continue to believe vaccines are unnecessary once childhood immunization is complete.

According to Dr. Mishra, India continues to record a substantial burden from vaccine-preventable diseases each year, while adult vaccination programs remain underrecognized compared to pediatric immunization efforts.
