Albendazole belongs to 2-benzimidazole group, introduced in market in 1971. Benzimidazole group having variety of therapeutic uses includes antitumor, antifungal, antiparasitic, antiviral and antihistaminic. Albendazole causes degeneration of intestinal cells of worms, thus shows potent wormicidal effect and antiprotozoal activities. It can be combined with ivermectin and diethylcarbamazine. Ivermectin identified by Omura and William Campbel in 1981 from Streptomyces Avarmycetis.
