The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), South II, has held an allopathic doctor negligent for prescribing an Ayurvedic medicine to a minor patient who later died, and has directed him to pay compensation to the child’s father. The order came after the Commission found that the doctor, despite being qualified only in allopathic medicine, had prescribed Livfit, an Ayurvedic preparation, thereby violating professional norms. The case dates back to 2010, when the complainant’s young son was taken to the doctor’s hospital with low-grade fever and abdominal pain. The hospital provisionally diagnosed him with dengue fever, a common occurrence during that season.
