The management of gastroenterological diseases has gone through several advances in treatment and surgical procedures. There has been consistent advancement from the first-ever Roux-en-Y laparoscopic gastric bypass in 1993 to restrictive operations (Adjustable gastric banding and gastric balloons), Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, Laparoscopic single anastomosis (Mini‐) gastric bypass, and Laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion/duodenal switch. With each advancement, patient outcomes have improved drastically.
