Retinal detachment accounts for most vitreoretinal surgeries, which have evolved tremendously over the years. Common treatment approaches include scleral buckling (SB), pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), pneumatic retinopexy, or combined PPV-SB. However, despite successful reattachment and excellent visual acuity (VA) in most patients, about one-third of them suffer visual distortions postoperatively. Hence, more research focusing on developing improved therapeutic interventions for retinal detachments is the need of the hour.
