An antibiotic drug reaction occurred at a hospital in Andhra Pradesh, which took 3 lives and left 16 patients ill. The incident was the result of administration of a dose of Ceftriaxone, to 19 women through an intravenous route. Soon after the administration, reactions started to develop and a total of 19 patients had vomiting, diarrhoea, high blood pressure and breathing problems. The resident medical officer (RMO) of the hospital, stated that, “ After they showed negative reactions, we administered an antidote to all 19, moved seven to our intensive care unit (ICU) and sent three to King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam as their health was deteriorating rapidly.
