Aortic dissection is the tearing of the inner layer of the aorta, causing the blood to flow into the inner and middle layers of the aorta. The symptoms of an aortic dissection include sudden and severe chest pain, a weak pulse in downstream arteries, differences in blood pressure in left and right arms, and hypotension. The prevalence rate of aortic dissection is around 30 cases per 1,000,000 people per year, with a 30% mortality rate. Diagnosis of aortic dissection is usually made using imaging techniques like TEE, MRI, or CT. The course of treatment depends upon the location of the tear and its severity.
Surgical options include graft replacement and endovascular-stent repair, while less severe cases can be treated with medication, which includes β-blockers. To understand more about this condition, join Dr. Mohammed Idhrees on 24 th April 2022 at 3:00 PM IST . Session highlights:…
