Medical diagnosis is usually referred to as the process of determining the disease which best explains a set of symptoms. However, it is increasingly important to confirm the diagnosis with the help of the most appropriate diagnostic test in a given clinical setting. The confirmation of a disease or condition may either require medical tests or posthumous diagnosis.

Further, a medical test may be conducted for diagnosis, screening, or monitoring purposes. Based on methods the diagnostic tests can be classified into observational, questionnaire, physical examination, radiologic tests, in vivo diagnostics, and in vitro diagnostics
