According to a recent study published in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, approximately 1 in 3 adults with prediabetes has arthritis in the United States. Further, adults with the coexisting conditions, are either physically inactive and/or have obesity, which further increases their risk for type 2 diabetes. The researchers analyzed the prediabetic and arthritis data of nearly 10000 adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys from 2009 to 2016.

After analyzing the results, they concluded that among adults with prediabetes, the annual prevalence of arthritis was 32.0% while those with diabetes had a 42% annual prevalence of arthritis. Additionally, the prevalence of arthritis was not significantly different between adults with prediabetes and those with diabetes.
