The US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) updated its 2016 recommendation on aspirin use to reduce CVD events including myocardial infarction and stroke, cardiovascular mortality, and all-cause mortality in individuals with no history of CVD . The USPSTF also organized a microsimulation modeling study to evaluate the benefits and harms of aspirin use as primary prevention of CVD and colorectal cancer. The USPSTF’s recommendation on aspirin use for primary prevention of CVD is detailed in this article. 1 Benefits of aspirin use In a systematic review, 13 randomized clinical trials conducted on 161,680 individuals showed the benefits of aspirin use in the primary prevention of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity.
