Autism has an incidence of 1 in 11,914 people in India. Incidence extrapolations of autism for India suggest autism cases to be 11,914 per year, 250 per month, 57 per week, 8 per day, 1.4 per hour. The Autistic Pride Day was first observed on 18th June 2005 in Brazil with a theme of ‘Acceptance Not Cure’. It was initiated by the Aspies For Freedom (AFF) organization which works towards the rights of autistic people.
AFF was created in 2004 by Gareth and Amy Nelson to highlight the fact that autism is not always a disability and autistic people are unique individuals. Since then, Autistic Pride Day is celebrated worldwide on 18th June, every year.
