Highlights Autologous bone-marrow derived chondrocytes injected intra-articularly are safe and efficient in reducing pain, improving function and quality of life in individuals with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis. There was a significant reduction in pain with or without pain and improved knee joint function over a span of 2 years in patients who received chondrocyte injections compared to the ones who received the conventional treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and physical therapy. No side effects of the new treatment were observed. Authors: Mir Sadat-Ali, Abdallah S. AlOmran, Sulaiman A.
