A 51 y/o/m comes to my department with periorbital eyelid swelling, painful proptosis, and impaired vision. He had a h/o of sore throat, headache, fever, and malaise since a few days prior to eye symptoms. No diabetes, HTN, or known systemic immunosuppression. CT and MRI scans showed extraconal and intraconal pus bilaterally. Diffuse oedema od pus collections in the extraconal and intraconal spaces.
Diffuse edema of the extraocular muscles and soft tissues noted. Microbiology lab work confirms orbital cellulitis due to Enterococcus faecalis culture. He has sensitivity to ampicillin, gentamycin, linezolid, norfloxacin, vancomycin, and teicoplanin. Any comments on how this eye infection can be treated?
