Sucralose-6-acetate is an analog of the artificial sweetener sucralose present in commercially available sucralose as an impurity and is also found in the feces of rodent models after sucralose is acetylated in the guts. While sucralose is known to affect gut microflora , intestinal tissue, and metabolism, the adverse effects of sucralose-6-acetate are not yet studied. Additionally, given that some recent commercial sucralose samples were found to contain up to 0.67% sucralose-6-acetate, evaluating its impact on human health becomes more crucial.
Recently, researchers evaluated the toxicological and pharmacokinetic effects of sucralose-6-acetate in a series of in vitro studies and found the following: Sucralose-6-acetate was found to be genotoxic with increased clastogenic potential and the potential to break DNA strands and micronucleus.
