The USFDA recently approved olaparib plus abiraterone and prednisone for the treatment of adult patients with confirmed or suspected diagnoses of breast cancer (BRCA)-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. This approval was based on the findings of a randomized clinical trial involving 796 participants with confirmed adenocarcinoma with at least one metastatic lesion. They were assigned to two groups – one that received a daily dose of 300 mg olaparib plus abiraterone, and the other group received a placebo plus abiraterone.

In addition, all the patients were given 5 mg of prednisone twice daily. There was a 34% risk reduction of radiographic evidence of disease progression in the group that received olaparib plus abiraterone.
