Highlights • Few studies have evaluated the effect of make-up products on the onset and development of dry eye disease (DED).1 • The highest rates of DED are found in females and the elderly, who may be especially susceptible to the side effects of eye make-up.1 • Two factors, namely the application of cosmetics close to the eyes and the frequency of cosmetic usage, determine the detrimental impact of eye cosmetics on ocular health.2
