A post hoc analysis of the CLEAR Outcomes randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, published in JAMA Cardiology, evaluated whether bempedoic acid was associated with a reduced risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) among 13,970 statin-intolerant adults at high risk for or with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease enrolled at 1,250 centers across 32 countries.Participants were randomized to receive bempedoic acid 180 mg daily (6,992 participants) or placebo (6,978 participants) and were followed for a median of 40.6 months. The primary outcome was the first occurrence of venous thromboembolism (VTE), defined as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
