Dear Doctors, The mobile consult is ubiquitous these days. There are conflicting views on tele-consultation . I would like to address some issues and seek your views on the similar challenges we face daily. The only side to the story from the patient's perspective is to ensure that the doctor's personal number is not used as a 24/7 call number and the doctor's time and effort is taken for granted.

At the same time the nature of emergency is well understood by the patient and the doctor that a true emergency is best handled in a hospital/medical facility setting. A high fever could be sepsis or viral fever which is non responsive to paracetamol. Doctor's are best advised to text the message of the medication mentioned including dose in case such a prescription is given over the phone.
