What is with this ‘ Chamki ki bimari’ , that is causing the death of 150 young children within a month in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur. The children would run a high fever, have seizures and slip in and out of consciousness. Heat, humidity, pesticides, the monsoon weather, etc have all been considered as the risk factors for the illness. The scientists are now able to hit the real reason –“ litchis ”. The children in Muzaffarpur have been diagnosed with Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES)- a neurological condition caused by a biochemical imbalance in the body.

The current report suggests the death of about 150 children after “ inflammation and infection ”  of the brain. But there has been a lot of confusion and misinformation about this outbreak and its related cause that makes children unusually vulnerable, and the strange connection is litchis!
