Forcing children to be doctor: I happen to teach Indian students in a private medical college out of India. Many of the parents were businessmen and some were doctors having flourishing practice. The students used to tell that they are not interested in this profession but they have joined there because their parents want them to be doctors. As expected, they were very poor academically. The dean used to tell the teachers, "Pass them in the examination we have taken money from them (35-40 lacs per student for whole course, yr 2003)".

The faculty used to say: the donkeys are to be made doctors. If such people are passed for money, one can expect the kind of havoc they will be. They will be playing with lives. When MCI introduced complusory examination for students holding medical degrees from outside India, it was not surprising to know that majority of these students could not pass…
