World Blood Donor Day is observed on June 14 to honor the millions of unpaid, voluntary blood donors who help save lives. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Give blood, give hope: together we save lives.” According to the World Health Organization, the campaign aims to: Increase public awareness of the urgent need for blood and plasma donations Inspire both new and existing donors to give blood regularly Emphasize the life-changing benefits of blood donation for recipients Encourage governments and partners to invest in and support sustainable national blood programs While low- and middle-income countries have poor access to safe blood and its products, the rising number of emergency cases, surgeries, and organ transplants have led to an increased demand for blood donation.
