Following the WHO’s declaration of mpox as a global public health emergency and the detection of mpox cases in Sweden and Pakistan , the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has implemented preventive measures to protect Mumbai from the mpox outbreak. As a part of these efforts, the BMC has established a 14-bed ward at a Mumbai hospital operated under a public-private partnership. The BMC also conducted a meeting with airport authorities to enhance mpox surveillance at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Following the meeting, the Airport Health Officer department initiated the thermal screening of travelers from mpox-affected countries.
