A latest notice by Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has clarified that the evasion of bonded service will be treated as a misconduct and unethical behaviour. As per the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) notification, the doctors who are found guilty could end up losing their registration as a medical practitioner. Medical Council of India (MCI) mandates renewal of registration for doctors across the country, every five years, to continue practising in India. The doctors will have to furnish their 'bond-free' certificate, failing which, the renewal will be halted and such unregistered medical practitioners will be treated as bogus doctors.

These practitioners will be liable for necessary action as per the Maharashtra Medical Profession Act. The bond service was introduced to justify the scarcity of doctors in rural areas. Although the government is having a tough time…
