A new study published in Annals of Oncology showed that fully vaccinated cancer patients can get COVID-19 infection. The study also revealed both vaccinated and unvaccinated cancer patients are susceptible to severe COVID-19 due to cancer and its treatment. Malignancies and antineoplastic treatments generally weaken the immunity of cancer patients. The COVID-19 vaccine development programs and clinical trials have so far excluded cancer and immunosuppressive patients. Hence, the researchers aimed to study the characteristics of COVID-19 infection among vaccinated cancer patients.

Data of cancer patients affected by COVID-19 was obtained from the COVID-19 & Cancer Consortium . They examined only the cancer patients with confirmed data for COVID-19 infection and vaccination status.
