Refraction or in simple terminology prescribing glasses after doing refraction is a major ophthalmic entity. Some 40 to 5 years since no autorefractor and other modern facilities were not present, refraction, after mydriasis was done by 1 retinoscope and patient, were asked to come after 24 hours. For post mydriatic test and prescription of glasses, more than 90 percent of refraction was done by ophthalmologists in past. In recent times I feel ophthalmologists have rather lost to do refraction no doubt we have optometrists to do the job.
And in present scenario ophthalmologists feel that a lot of subspecialties have come and they have lost interest in this important subject of refraction. My sincere request is even if refraction is done by the optometrist. Kindly make it a point to verify the refraction done by optometrists.
