Almost all of our young ophthalmology residents may not have seen any case of trachoma which as a matter of fact used to be an endemic disease of past prevalent in middle east Egypt and Asian Countries. It was a blinding disease due to corneal involvement in chronic patients played an important part in its eradication. It was caused by Chlamydia trachomatis . Initially, thought to be virus belonging to PLT group psittacosis lymphogranuloma trachoma group of viruses, later on, was believed to be inclusion or elementary bodies.
but recently it is believed to be caused by gram-negative bacteria it was eradicated long back according to WHO. We don't see any fresh case one may see sometimes in an old patient who has swill of trachoma. The old manifestations are her pits art line.
