Coats disease is also called as exudative retinopathy and also termed as adult coats like lipid retinopathy like retinal xanthoma. It is one of the major causes of leukokoria. It is common in first decade of life from 9 to 12 tears of age presents as squint and visual impairment usually unilateral mostly occurring in boys. On ophthalmoscopy or if a we see retinal telengectasia with dilatation of peripheral vessels  in ost of the cases there is regression.

The treatment is photo coagulation of the telengetatic vessels  which prevents the development of retinal detachment and some people say ilaser may improve the vision if not treated over the period of time  complications can occur  like retro rentral fold  iridocyclits  ruebeosis complicated cataract even pthsis. It is said 3 percent cases of retinitis pigmentosa ave got coats like manifestations. Share your views.
