Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a major cause of vision loss in older adults and often requires frequent intravitreal anti-VEGF injections, creating a substantial treatment burden. To address this challenge, a study compared brolucizumab and aflibercept using identical treat-and-extend regimens, evaluating their efficacy, safety, and ability to extend treatment intervals while maintaining visual and anatomical outcomes in 734 patients with nAMD .

The study found that a greater proportion of patients receiving brolucizumab achieved extended treatment intervals without disease activity compared with aflibercept (28.4% vs 12.2%). Visual outcomes were comparable between groups, with similar mean gains in best-corrected visual acuity (+4.7 letters with brolucizumab vs +4.9 letters with aflibercept), while brolucizumab showed superior anatomical improvement, with aโ€ฆ
