E-pharmacies are deemed illegal by Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) and there is no law that governs e-pharmacies till date. At present, online pharmacies in India are governed by the Drugs and Cosmetic Act but there are certain grey areas in terms of schedule X and schedule Y drugs . The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently warned consumers about the possible dangers of buying medicines online.

In some shocking incidences, FDA observed that people who ordered one of the following products online: Zolpidem tartrate Alprazolam Escitalopram oxalate Lorazepam Instead of receiving the drug they ordered, they received products containing haloperidol, a powerful anti-psychotic drug.
