Three Doctors of AIIMS were punished, their names were removed from council register for one month for medical negligence in the death of a nurse. These include one senior resident of anesthesia and gynecology and one junior resident from anesthesia. Junior residency is a period of learning and training and they are supposed to work under the supervision of their seniors. If medical negligence or deficiency in services occurred by a junior resident working independently as in present case where incapability in giving general anesthesia and Intubation proved, the entire responsibility lies with the senior present on duty.
Legally also one can't practice in specialization independently without holding a degree of postgraduation. Then why to punish them? What is your opinion? Kindly share.
