A 45 years old man with a known diagnosis of diabetic dyslipidemia, on examination has Bitot spot in the left eye. He is on a fat-free diet and taking a combination of Atorvastatin and fenofibrate along with metformin and glimepiride for the last three months. Bitot spot is due to deficiency of vitamin A.
My query is: can fat-free diet and lipid-lowering medication be a cause of vitamin A deficiency leading to dry eyes? Please share your views.
