Capsule endoscopy or wireless/video capsule endoscopy uses a pill camera to visualize the gastrointestinal lumen. It was first performed in 1999 but received the USFDA’s approval in 2001. Studies have proven the superior efficacy of capsule endoscopy over conventional barium studies, colonoscopy , angiography, and push enteroscopy.
