Cases presented with high grade fever, bodyache and joint pains from the city of Hyderabad were suspected to be due to dengue in 2006. But test results were negative for dengue serology. When we examined these cases, we observed severe debilitating condition to the extent that they were not able to stand up at their own. We referred to Text Book of Medicine and clinical presentation was observed to be close to chikungunya.
Entomological investigation revealed high larval density of Aedes mosquito. We made the diagnosis of chikungunya, a condition which tend to bend in Tanzanian language. Subsequently, lab investigations confirmed it.
