A soon to be published study conducted at the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics has revealed that the virus has already mutated ten times, resulting in strains with different properties and infectivity. The evolution of the virus has led to additions in the clinical presentation of COVID-19. The virus causing COVID-19 has mutated several times in the past few months.
A phenomenon called genetic segregation has led to the formation of the virus. However, its ability to rapidly mutate and infect populations over enormous geographies has led to its evolution into different strains with different infectivity.
