1. Indian Health Ministry Bans OTC Sale of Cough Syrups Without a Valid Prescription India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has removed cough syrups from the Schedule K list , effectively ending their over-the-counter sale without a prescription from a registered medical practitioner. The move follows a proposal made last year after reports of child deaths linked to contaminated cough syrups in Madhya Pradesh. As a result, commonly used cough syrups, including Benadryl , will now require a valid prescription for purchase at retail pharmacies. Cough and sore throat lozenges, however, will continue to remain on the OTC list.
