Pleural mesothelioma is a rare but aggressive malignant tumor of the serous membrane of the pleural cavity of the lungs. The prevalence of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is highly increasing worldwide. It is associated mainly with asbestos exposure. To facilitate the early and accurate diagnosis of MPM and commence suitable treatment, the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) and the Spanish Lung Cancer Group have collaboratively released practice guidelines for diagnosing and managing MPM.

These guidelines are based on evidence collected from several systemic reviews, clinical trials, prospective and retrospective observational studies.
