Salient features- Before April 2022, monkeypox virus infection in humans was seldom reported outside African regions and currently, cases are occurring worldwide and more than 3000 cases have been reported Clinical profile of 528 cases from 16 countries is reported in this study 98% of the persons were gay or bisexual men, and 41% had HIV infection In 95% transmission most probably occurred through sexual activity and 95% had skin rash as their main symptom Fever (62%), lethargy (41%), myalgia (31%), and headache (27%); lymphadenopathy was also common (reported in 56%). Only 5% received antiviral therapy which is in the form which included intravenous or topical cidofovir (in 2% of persons), tecovirimat (2%), and vaccinia immune globulin (<1%).
9% had received had smallpox vaccination in the past • 13% were hospitalized and NO DEATHS OCCURRED.
