Efforts will be made to popularize eye donation in Tiruvarur, District Collector N. Mathivanan said here on Thursday. Speaking at a function organized by the Department of Ophthalmology, Tiruvarur Government Medical College Hospital, and the District Blindness Control Society as part of the “eye donation awareness fortnight”, Mr. Mathivanan stressed the need for popularizing eye donation concept throughout the district.
The next of kin of eye donors stood as shining example of humane quality, offering what could be of use to others even at the time of distress, he said lauding donors’ kin on the occasion. The Collector appreciated the role of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Tiruvarur Medical College in retrieving 13 eyes from donors and undertaking corneal transplants in five months.
