Perioperative complications in colorectal surgery are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Most of these complications are dependent on the knowledge and experience of a surgeon. Thus, this article is an attempt to highlight some of the risk factors and preventive measures in colorectal surgery complications.

In colorectal cancer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, mechanical bowel obstruction and recurrent diverticulitis, the colorectal surgery often results in major gastrointestinal complications.
