The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), Hassan, recently issued a crucial ruling, directing a Bengaluru-based hospital and two of its doctors to pay Rs 30 lakh compensation to the son of a woman who died following complications after undergoing treatment in 2023. The patient initially experienced severe abdominal pain and underwent investigations in Hassan, where a CT scan revealed gallbladder stones and choledocholithiasis. Her local doctor referred her to a higher centre for specialised management. She was first admitted to a super speciality hospital in Bengaluru and later shifted to a prominent hospital on Sarjapur Road for further care.
