50 years post menopausal women, with history of Systemic lupus erythematosus for 15 years on treatment with cortisone. Under remission for 2 years and on alternate day prednisolone 5mg treatment for prevention of relapse. patient had avascular necrosis of bilateral neck of femur and had surgical replacement. after 8 years of replacement she needed replacement of the left implant for reasons of wear and tear. She suffered from continous discharge from the site of surgery, suggesting infection at the site of surgery (near hip joint).

repeated culutre and sensitivity revealed negative growth. she was managed conservatively with anitbiotics for a month, with no signs of improvement. (however no systemic signs of infection was seen). with continous discharge and compromised immunity, she underwent removal of the implant and was treated with systmeic antibiotics as well as local anitbiotics.…
