The kind of COVID situation which we saw in Europe and Africa during the first wave is witnessed in India now. It is highly disturbing to see patients being treated in ambulances due to lack of hospital beds and queues even in burning ghats and cremation grounds. The second wave surge is the result of improper conduct of people due to ignorance, religious bigotry and poverty. Therefore the immediate task before the governments is to stop the spread. This can only be achieved by complete lockdown at least for a month , the incubation period being some two weeks or so.
The lockdown should be implemented by the state governments. The Union government should extend all the help to states. Spending much time and money in vaccination is not going to stop the spread.
