The number of childbirth by cesarean section has been increasing rapidly. The cesarean section delivery brings about an additional challenge of managing anesthesia during this procedure. This article provides an overview of current practices and recommendations of anesthesia during cesarean delivery. The increasing number of childbirths by cesarean section demands gynecologists to be more educated with principles and advances in anesthesia. Even though both general and regional anesthesia are used in cesarean section, the use of general anesthesia has been declining.
