It's a common trend in conferences & CME to follow and present for a thing recently brought into notice for medical fraternity. For example, In surgery, when laparoscopy started all surgeons want to buy it and use it and present a paper In microbiology, all microbiologist running after scrub DS or MALDI-TOF etc.
I feel research is opportunistically done, which have lots of finance. Why we neglect the topics and cases which are existing but are of major concern like many diseases which have been controlled but now left with their fate to re-emerge?
