I recently got a patient who gave me a clear history of adult ADHD, narcolepsy and treatment-resistant depression and he has been prescribed amphetamines for the same. He showed me valid prescriptions and bills. Hence I prescribed the same to him. After this, however, I was told by a colleague that he is a doctor shopper and should not be given amphetamines.
How can we find out if a person is such a drug seeker? Are there any central or state notification systems where we can inform about such patient? Is there any mandatory reporting for the same in India? i am talking about concerta...methylphenidate
