‘Old doctors never retire, they just fade away’ says General MacArthur. Doctors have a huge work load, and have a hard time knowing when it is time to call it quits. Many doctors continue to practice till their 70s and 80s and some continue until they die. Doctors invest a lot into medicine where without practice they feel they are nothing. Somehow doctors feel they would be abandoning their patients if they retire. Some feel their social status, would diminish.
Others are afraid, or don’t know how to do it. A physician said he had no idea what he would do if he stopped working. Then how do you decide whether to retire or not? If you decide to retire, how is it done? What are the things you should consider while retirement?
