Doctors at a private hospital in Pune have successfully treated an elderly patient with severe coronary artery blockage using a cutting-edge procedure known as Orbital-Tripsy. This procedure combines two advanced methods – orbital atherectomy and shockwave intravascular lithotripsy. Orbital atherectomy employs a specialized device to remove arterial plaque, while shockwave intravascular lithotripsy uses sonic pressure to break down hardened calcium deposits, enhancing blood flow. The patient, who had a history of diabetes and hypertension , was admitted to the hospital with chest pain.
