Recent observational evidence suggests that in HIV-1 -infected women, dolutegravir antiretroviral therapy  (ART) initiated before conception helps achieve better viral suppression at delivery, than other approved antiretroviral therapies such as: Atazanavir-ritonavir Darunavir-ritonavir Rilpivirine Raltegravir Elvitegravir-cobicistat In addition to viral suppression, risks in infants such as preterm birth , low birth weight and being  small for gestational age were also compared between dolutegravir and other ARTs. The median age at conception was 29 years. While dolutegravir produced superior viral suppression (in 96.7% of 120 patients) than other ARTs (in 84–90% of patients in those cohorts), no significant differences in adverse birth outcomes between dolutegravir and other ARTs were observed.
