Hyaluronic acid injections are administered to arthritis patients to lubricate the joints and to reduce the pain. However, the available reports suggest that they may not work in all patients, especially in older patients and in patients with advanced osteoarthritis. A recent review which involved analysis of data from 89 clinical trials over 12,000 patients found that these injections had either no effect or a clinically irrelevant effect in patients.
There are also other concerns like how many injections should be given and at what stage of arthritis. In your experience, how effective are these hyaluronic acid injections?
